Sources and counting rules

Fiction/non-fiction combines bibliographic notices and GPT-6 Luna classifications checked on a sample. Model classifications are identified in entry details. Other metadata comes from bibliographic sources; unresolved information remains unknown.

This article freezes the My Nine Books production export at 11 October 2026, 09:08 UTC. Collection began on 3 October. A grid enters the collection when its creator finalizes a download, shares its image or creates a share link. Draft edits and views of somebody else’s grid do not add a selection.

We retain the latest finalized revision of each grid identity, count each identified work once per grid and exclude catalogued bundles of separate works. Known editions and translations follow the catalogue’s established mappings. Without a mapping, a stored title and author can remain a provisional entry; we do not merge titles because they look alike.

A grid identity is not a verified person. Clearing a draft, another browser or another device can produce another identity. The site records selections, not purchases or ratings, and slot order is not used as a preference weight.

The sample is also uneven: 94.5% of these grids used the English interface. Interface language is not nationality or residence. The separate French site is outside this export. These figures describe the contributions to My Nine Books, not the reading habits of a representative population.

Bibliographic identities include catalogue mappings with different review confidence. Missing information and later corrections can change counts. We use the complete local aggregate for the article; the subset with displayable covers does not define the statistical sample. The Amazon covers illustrate verified editions, while counts concern the works across their mapped editions.

Title-and-author coverage includes provisional entries. Each work’s presence is deduplicated within a grid, so identified presences can be fewer than identified choices.

We count a grid once for each credited name, even when it includes several of that name’s books. Book mentions count each different work. Exact credited strings remain separate: spelling variants and joint credits are not silently merged into individual authors.
